This is combined with animal measurement data collected from over 800 zoos and aquariums in almost 80 countries, from which zoologists can compare information on thousands of endangered species. Edinburgh Zoo’s Giant Panda Breeding Season Comes To An End

Giant Pandas Tian Tian And Yang Guang in their enclosure at Edinburgh Zoo ahead of the 2014 breeding season

Experts at Edinburgh zoo have been monitoring Tian Tian as her hormone levels have been showing she will soon enter her brief fertile mating period. It is hoped that Tian Tian and the zoo’s male panda Yang Guang will produce a cub this year as both animals start to show the signs that they are ready to breed..

Bristol Zoo Welcomes Their New Baby Pygmy Hippo

Winnie, the new three-week-old baby pygmy hippo and her mother Sirana walk to the pool in their enclosure at the pygmy hippo exhibit at Bristol Zoo Gardens on February 26, 2014 in Bristol, England.

Bristol Zoo Gardens is part of an international captive breeding programme for the pygmy hippo, which is threatened in the wild, where it is thought less than 2,000 of these animals still survive. In Liberia, destruction of forests surrounding the Sapo National Park by logging companies is damaging one of the few remaining strongholds for the pygmy hippo.

Nanuk The Polar Bear Cub Plays With His Traffic Cone

The eight-month-old male cub Nanuk has taken to wearing the plastic traffic cone as a hat to protect from the sun in his enclosure under the supervision of his mother female polar bear Cora and sister Kometa at Brno Zoo on July 24, 2013 in Brno, Czech Republic.

Both cubs were born on November 2012. According to Czech forecasters last week was one of the driest weeks since 1951 and continuing sunshine with temperatures reaching above 40 degrees Celsius for another hot weekend has been reported.

Angolan Colobus Monkey Born At Chicago-Area Brookfield Zoo

Olivia, a five-year-old Angolan colobus monkey, clutches her baby which was born March 9, at the Brookfield Zoo on March 27, 2013 in Brookfield, Illinois. The infant monkeys are born completely white, turn gray, and then black, their adult coloration, in approximately three months.

Angolan colobuses are native to dense rain forests throughout equatorial Africa.
