Press Preview For The Holocaust Memorial Day Exhibition At The Imperial War Museum North
Ceramic artist Chava Rosenzweig poses next to her installation of ceramic stars representing how the Holocaust shaped people’s lives, on January 15, 2013 in Manchester, England.
The installation has been created to mark Holocaust Memorial Day on Sunday 27 January 2013. The piece is made up of gas fired ceramic stars and is intended to make viewers think about the how the Holocaust has shaped the lives of generations. The yellow star, based on the Star of David, was a symbol of pride for Jewish people turned into a symbol of humiliation by the Nazis.
The work was inspired by Chava Rosenzweig’s grandmother who was in Auschwitz and whose job as seamstress was to make the yellow stars which Jewish people were forced to wear by the Nazis.
